Morgan Wrestling Grabs Gold at the Derby Invitational; Both Basketball Teams Defeat H-K

Wrestling

The Morgan wrestling team finished in first place as a squad at the Derby Invitational on Dec. 16. The Huskies scored 166 points with runner-up Gilbert scoring 135 at the meet.

Louis Bradley took first place for Morgan in the 113-pound division by defeating Thomas Chappa of Oxford by pin at 2:41 in the final. Anthony Cimino claimed first at 138 with a pin of Donovan Mackin of Canton. In the 170-pound division, Isaac Erikson defeated Austin Kilduff of Canton by pin at 37 seconds. Austin Daley took first place in the 285-pound division with a win by pin over Derby’s Anthony Slowik at 4:14.

Other Huskies who competed were Kyle Carse in the 113 division, Trevor Follo in the 132, Tim Smith in the 152 division, Andrew Fortuna in the 160 division, and Kyle Neumann in the 220 division.

Boys’ Basketball

The Morgan boys’ basketball team’s season is underway, and it started with a narrow victory for the Huskies on the road against Haddam-Killingworth. Morgan beat the Cougars 47-46 on Dec. 16 to get the season started on the right foot.

Girls’ Basketball

The Huskies’ girls’ basketball squad opened its season by splitting games against Cromwell and Haddam-Killingworth. On Dec. 12, Morgan hosted Cromwell and took a 63-48 loss against the Panthers. Then on the Dec. 16, the Huskies picked up their first win by virtue of a 45-39 victory against Haddam-Killingworth.
