North Haven Girls’ Swimming Honored at All-State Ceremony

Five athletes from the North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team recently attended the annual All-State Ceremony at the AquaTurf Club in Southington, where they were honored for earning All-State accolades during the 2017 fall season.

Sophomore Angela Gambardella made All-State by taking first place in the 200 individual medley (2:06.59) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.82) at the Class M State Championship. Gambardella was named the Most Valuable Player of the Class M meet, and North Haven Head Coach Martha Phelan was selected as the Connecticut Interscholastic Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year.

Additionally, freshman Maddie Bergin went All-State with her victories in the 50 freestyle (24.44) and the 100 freestyle (53.03) at the Class M State Championship. North Haven’s 200 medley relay of Bergin, Gambardella, Jasmine Nguy, and fellow senior captain Laura Borrelli made All-State with a first-place time of 1:51.43. The Indians’ 200 freestyle relay of Gambardella, Borrelli, freshman Riley Jooss, and Bergin took first place with a time of 1:40.89 to earn All-State distinction.
