Yellowjackets Lose to the Hornets in the Beehive Bowl

The East Haven football team took a 37-0 defeat at rival Branford in the 76th annual Thanksgiving Day game between the two rivals on Nov. 23. After winning the 2017 Beehive Bowl, the Hornets extended their all-time lead in the series to 39-33-4.

Branford scored its first touchdown on a 42-yard pass and then found then end zone on a 5-yard run to hold a 14-0 advantage after the opening quarter. Late in the first half, the Hornets used a 25-yard TD pass to take a 21-0 advantage into halftime.

Branford kicked a 28-yard field goal to make it 24-0 in the third quarter. A few minutes later, the Hornets intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a score and a 30-0 advantage through three. Branford scored the game’s final TD a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter.

East Haven finished the season with an overall record of 1-9 and a mark of 1-6 in SCC Tier 3. Branford went 3-7 overall and was 3-3 in Tier 3 this year.
