Guilford Football Loses to Hand on Thanksgiving Eve

The Guilford football team lost its last two games of the 2017 regular season to finish at 4-6 in its first year with Head Coach Anthony M. Avallone. On Nov. 16, the Indians dropped a 21-6 decision at non-conference opponent East Lyme. Then on Nov. 22, Guilford lost to Hand by a 49-7 final at home in the teams’ annual Thanksgiving Eve game.

Hand took a 13-0 lead after the first quarter and led 42-0 at halftime in its victory versus Guilford. The Indians got on the board with an 11-yard touchdown rush from Corey Sondak in the third quarter.

In the previous game against East Lyme, Jack Strand was 8-of-18 passing for 160 yards and a touchdown for the Indians. A.J. Moscato led the ground game with 13 rushes for 52 yards. Tyler Filley had a strong game through the air, reeling in three catches for 126 yards and the Indians’ lone TD.

On defense, the Indians’ leading tacklers were Jack Gabriel (12), Brett Skapczynski (12), and Carter Cox (11). Anthony J. Avallone, Moscato, and Tyler Melillo each had nine tackles for Guilford.
