Three Valley Shore YMCA Marlins swimmers were recently recognized for their achievements by Connecticut Swim, Inc., at the organization’s annual awards banquet on Nov. 5 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. The banquet recognizes swimmers with the 16 fastest times in the state in events in their respective age groups from the preceding short- and long-course seasons.

Daniel Chen from Madison swam in the 13-14 year-old boys’ age group and placed ninth in Connecticut in 200 backstroke, 12th in 100 backstroke, and 13th in the 400 individual medley. Kelsey O’Donnell from Ivoryton placed 11th in the state in 10-U girls’ 100 backstroke. Grace Sweeney from Old Saybrook tied for 11th place in Connecticut in 100 butterfly and placed 14th in 200 butterfly among 11-12 year-old girls.

The Connecticut top 16 times were compiled from all meets during the 2016-’17 short-course season and the 2017 long-course season in each individual event within the following age groups: 10-U, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, and senior. This includes the Open Water Championship mile swim for 11-U athletes.
