Guilford Boys’ Soccer, Field Hockey, Volleyball Lose in State Semis

Boys’ Soccer

The Guilford boys’ soccer team faced rival Hand in the Class L State Tournament semifinals and took a 1-0 defeat at West Haven High School on Nov. 13. The 3rd-seeded Indians finished their campaign with an overall record of 17-3-1.

Volleyball

The Indians’ volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 decision (25-13, 25-12, 25-10) against top-seeded RHAM in a Class L State Tournament semifinal contest at Middletown High School on Nov. 15. Guilford, which was the No. 4 seed, finished at 22-4 overall for a season that saw the team win the SCC Oronoque Division title and reach its first SCC Tournament final since 2011.

Field Hockey

The Guilford field hockey team took on Hand in a Class M State Tournament semifinal and lost by a 2-1 final at Branford High School on Nov. 14. The No. 2 seed Tigers led 1-0 at the half, but Olivia Clarke scored 7:12 into the second half to tie the game for the 3rd-seeded Indians. Hand went on to score the game winning goal with 7:15 left in the game. Guilford posted a mark of 16-4-1 on the year.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The Indians’ girls’ swimming and diving team finished in 14th place with 101 points at the Class L State Championship at Wesleyan University on Nov. 15.

Alexandra Mayo finished in 10th place for the 100 freestyle (54.62) and was 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:58.19) for Guilford. The 400 freestyle relay of Haley Moriarity, Mayo, Julia Earle, and Elizabeht Hicks finished 14th (4:08.30); the 200 freestyle relay of Mayo, Moriarity, Earle, and Hicks came in 15th (1:53.50); and the 200 medley relay of Sadie Booth, Chloe Shoff, Lea Chaudun, and Anna Angkatavanich finished 17th (2:32.15) for the Indians.
