The tournament season concluded at Guilford Lakes Golf Course (GLGC) with the 2017 Octoberfest Fall Classic that was held on Oct. 28. Thirty players teed off with a modified shotgun start at 9 a.m. and enjoyed some perfect weather before the rains came. A continental breakfast was served, and Carpanzano’s Pizzeria provided gourmet pizzas for lunch.

The format for the tournament was an individual stroke play event with both men and women participating. Skip Perkins won low gross in the Men’s Division with a score of 60. Jean Pandraud won low net with a score of 49. In the Ladies’ Division, Peggy Seabrooke won low gross with a 91, while Karen Ragonese took low net honors with a score of 64. Greg Broderick won the closest-to-the-pin at 5-foot-5, and Karen Ragonese won for the ladies at 5-foot-10. The putting contest was won by Josh Salisbury.

Hole-in-One prizes were sponsored by Scott Fitzgerald, the owner of FitzSpirit’s, and included an LCD wide-screen TV, a set of Callaway irons, and domestic airfare for two. The grand prize was a trip for two to either Pebble Beach, Hawaii, or St Andrews, all valued at $11,000.

“Guilford Lakes is known for multiple hole-in-ones each season,” said the GLGC’s PGA professional Mike Papp. “Sadly, there were no takers. Five tournaments are scheduled for next season, all with the same prizes. Someone is going to make one eventually.”
