Huskies’ Girls’ Soccer, Volleyball Compete in Shoreline Conference Tournament

Girls’ Soccer

The Morgan girls’ soccer squad played two games as part of the Shoreline Conference Tournament last week, winning its first game before losing in the semifinal round. The Huskies’ record is now 13-3-2 as they enter the Class M State Tournament.

On Oct. 31, the Huskies hosted Portland in the Shoreline quarterfinals and won 4-0. Morgan got out to a fast start by scoring three goals in the first half. Issy Ranaudo put one in net on an assist from Carley Schmidt. After that, Robyn Vuilleumier scored on a helper from Maddie Stopkoski. Alyssa LeMay followed by converting a goal on a penalty kick. In the second half, Courtney Viglione added the final goal to make it 4-0. Morgan had nine shots in the game to Portland’s three. Rebecca Cockley made three saves in goal.

The next day, Morgan faced off against North Branford on the road and lost 4-1 in semifinal matchup. Viglione scored the final goal of the game in the 77th minute for the Huskies, who had eight shots on goal, as did North Branford.

Volleyball

Morgan played a Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinal match against Hale-Ray last week and took a 3-0 defeat. The Huskies finished their season with a record of 7-13.

Girls’ Cross Country

Senior Kate Daley raced the State Open Championship at Wickham Park in Manchester on Nov.3. Daley finished with a time of 22:47 to finished in 133rd place at the meet.

Football

Morgan took a 33-8 home loss to Cromwell-Portland in a Peqout League Sassacus Division contest on Nov. 3 to drop to 0-8 on the season.

The Huskies’ next game is another divisional duel against Coginchaug/Hale-Ray (4-4, 3-3) at Coginchaug High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10.
