T-Birds’ Field Hockey Wraps Up Undefeated Regular Season; Girls’ Soccer Finishes with One Loss

Field Hockey

The North Branford field hockey team put a bow on an undefeated regular season by shutting out Waterford 1-0 in a non-conference contest on Oct. 26. North Branford finished with a record of 15-0-1 for the regular season this year.

North Branford is hosting Old Saybrook for a Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinal game at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Should the T-Birds win, they will play the winner of Westbrook and Valley Regional for the title at the Indian River Complex in Clinton on Thursday, Nov. 2.

Girls’ Soccer

North Branford saw its last two games of the regular season end in draws to finish with a record of 12-3-1.

On Oct. 23, North Branford and Law played to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference game. Lexi Rosado scored North Branford’s goal in the second half of the matchup.

Two days later, the T-Birds battled Cromwell to a 1-1 stalemate. Caitlin May scored off a header early in the game on a corner kick with Mackenzie MacGowan getting the assist for the Thunderbirds.

For the Shoreline Conference Tournament, North Branford earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. The T-Birds will face the winner of Morgan in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The final is set for Friday, Nov. 3 at Portland High School at 7 p.m.

Football

North Branford took its second straight loss when it dropped a 35-12 contest at Haddam-Killingworth in a Pequot League Sassacus Division game on Oct. 27. The defeat moved the Thunderbirds to 4-3 overall and 3-3- in the division this year.

Next up, the T-Birds will host Saybrook-Westbrook (6-1, 4-1) for another divisional duel on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Volleyball

The Thunderbirds lost their final two matches of season to finish at 4-16.

On Oct. 23, Valley Regional defeated North Branford 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-17). Katy Pederson led the team with 19 digs, while Dana Deluca had 14 and Sam DeAngelo finished with 10. Deluca and Lily Blomster each added two kills apiece.

North Branford’s final contest of the year was a 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-14) loss to East Hampton on Oct. 25. Sofia Cavalier, Nina Robertson, and Deluca all had two kills, plus DeAngelo posted a team-best 12 digs.

Boys’ Cross Country

North Branford finished in 24th place at the Class SS State Championship at Wickham Park in Manchester on Oct. 28.

Michael Madoule crossed the finish line with a time of 19:35 to finish in 65th place, while Jared Jamieson finished 71st with a mark of 19:48 for North Branford. Additionally, Roberto Didiano came in 128th place at 20:52, Joe DeLucia finished in 157th at 22:35, Patrick Miconi placed 168th behind a time of 24:38, Josh Brigido finished 170th in 24:52, and Jason Ash came in 171st place with a time of 24:56.

Girls’ Cross Country

The Thunderbirds sent three athletes to last week’s Class SS State Championship.

Onna Gott finished in 37th place with a time of 22:43, Mackenzie Glenn placed 42nd at 23:15, and Riley Kendall came in 68th place by running a time of 24:31 for the T-Birds.
