North Haven Maroon Wins Postseason Opener


The North Haven Maroon fall baseball team opened up the 2017 postseason by claiming a 6-2 home victory over Weston on Oct. 28. North Haven held a 3-2 lead before adding three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Luca Lawrence earned the win for North Haven by throwing four scoreless innings of relief. Starting pitcher Chris Ciarleglio allowed two runs (1 earned) in three innings of work.

At the plate, leadoff hitter Peyton Farina went 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI, while No. 2 hitter Hunter Garthwait was 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. Kevin Lucey had a single with a walk and a RBI, Mike Salzano singled home a run, and Nick Perillie singled, scored a run, and made several great defensive plays at second base to help North Haven win the game.

Previously, North Haven Maroon completed its regular season by earning a 2-1 victory at Cheshire on Oct. 22. Lawrence earned the win by allowing just one unearned run in 3.2 innings. Garthwait followed by tossing 3.1 innings in which he allowed neither a hit nor a walk to go with five strikeouts to get the save. Farina went 2-for-3 with a triple, a RBI, and a stolen base; Lucey walked twice and scored a run, and Gianni DeMartino singled, tripled, and scored a run for North Haven.

In other action, North Haven White dropped a 2-0 home contest to Amity on Oct. 22. Nathan Friess took a hard-luck loss for North Haven by pitching six innings and allowing just two runs (1 earned) on four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. David Turcio worked a scoreless seventh inning for North Haven. Jack Peruso had a walk with a stolen base in the game.

On Oct. 28, North Haven White lost to the Diamond Zone by a 5-3 final at home. Owen Silk singled and doubled with a run scored and a RBI for North Haven, while Jason Landino hit a pair of singles to go with a run and a RBI.
