Volleyball

The Haddam-Killingworth volleyball squad completed its excellent regular season by grabbing a pair of victories last week. The Cougars now get ready to compete in the Shoreline Conference Tournament that gets underway this week.

In last week’s action, H-K swept Creed 3-0 on Oct. 23 and then posted a 3-1 victory over Hale-Ray on Oct. 25 to finish the regular season with a record of 17-3.

Boys’ Soccer

The Cougars wrapped up the regular season by earning a tie and a win and will next play in the Shoreline Conference Tournament.

On Oct. 25, H-K played Valley Regional to a 2-2 draw. The Cougars then concluded their regular season with a mark of 12-2-2 after notching an 8-0 shutout over St. Paul on Oct. 28.

Girls’ Soccer

The Cougars concluded their 2017 campaign by defeating Capital Prep and playing to a tie against Old Saybrook last week. H-K went 3-12-1 on the year.

H-K first shut out Capital Prep by a 3-0 final on Oct. 23. The Cougars then battled Old Saybrook to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 25.

Field Hockey

H-K dropped a pair of decisions in its final week of the regular season and now focuses on the Shoreline Conference Tournament.

The Cougars took a 6-0 loss to Guilford on Oct. 23. After that, H-K lost to Valley Regional 2-0 on Oct. 28 for a regular season record of 5-6-3-2.

Football

The Cougars’ football team blew out North Branford 35-12 in a home game on Oct. 28 to improve to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Pequot League’s Sassacus Division. H-K scored 21 unanswered points in the second half after leading 14-12 at the break on its way to defeating the Thunderbirds (4-3, 3-3).

Dalton Modehn rushed for 151 yards with two touchdowns on 17 carries for H-K, while Jake Frith ran for 60 yards and a TD on nine rushes. H-K opened the game with a 14-yard Modehn touchdown run after Trevor Hines had blocked a North Branford punt deep in Thunderbirds’ territory. North Branford briefly took the lead with consecutive second-quarter touchdowns, but Modehn’s 35-yard TD run late in the first half gave the Cougars a lead they would never relinquish.

“Aiden Maher played an outstanding game at offensive guard and on the defensive line, wearing down the North Branford line as the game progressed. Colton Lavoie, a stalwart offensive center, had an outstanding defensive game at linebacker,” said Head Coach Mike Baklik. “We got off to a great start with Trevor Hines's punt block, which led to a touchdown, and, except for North Branford’s two scores in the second quarter, the guys never let down. We played a complete game in all three phases tonight: offense, defense, and special teams. I’m proud of our guys.”

H-K next hosts Lewis Mills (1-6, 1-4) for another divisional duel on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
