Morgan Boys’ Soccer Sweeps Week; Daley Races to 3rd Place at Shoreline Championship


Boys’ Soccer

The Huskies’ boys soccer team played three games last week and won all three to push its record to 11-2-1 on the season.

On Oct. 17, Morgan hosted East Hampton at the Indian River Complex and won 4-1. Ford Pender scored two goals for the Huskies, while Jhan Carlos Bermeo and Zach Tuccitto each had a goal. Adding assists were James Saturno, Jack O’Sullivan, Tyler Newfield. Anes Gadun had three saves on the day.

On Oct. 19, the Huskies headed to Norwich Free Academy, where they won 3-2. Juan Avila scored two goals for Morgan, and Tuccitto added one goal. Saturno and Bermeo both supplied an assist.

Two days later, Morgan headed to East Lyme, where it was victorious by a 2-0 score. Calvin Jackson and Tuccitto each scored a goal for the Huskies, and Tuccitto assisted on both of them.

Girls’ Cross Country

Kate Daley raced to a third-place finish for the Huskies behind a time of 21 minutes and 3 seconds at last week’s Shoreline Conference Championship.

Leah McComiskey (28:45), Taylor DiFilippo (30:20), and Pheobe Sullivan (30:52) also hit the trails and competed for Morgan at the conference meet.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Huskies headed to Old Lyme High School to compete at the Shoreline Conference Championship on Oct. 20 and came in ninth place as a team.

Morgan’s fastest finishers were Chase Lofgren, who placed 20th with a time of 19 minutes and 17 seconds; and Thomas Southwood who finished 34th at 20:10. The Huskies’ other runners were Justin Mucha in 60th (21:47), Caleb Adams-Hull in 61st (21:51), Aiden Maurais at 66th (22:35), Hayden Saranich in 71st (22:58), and Brett Martin in 73rd (23:36).

Volleyball

The Huskies lost two of their three matches last week, but are still just one win away from qualifying for states with a record of 7-10 and two matches remaining.

On Oct. 16, Morgan headed to East Hampton and lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, and 25-15). Georgia Nye had nine kills, four digs, two aces, and a reception, while Mackensie Anderson, had 20 receptions, 14 digs, three kills and an ace. Taylor Marnett added 25 digs and 19 receptions, and Sara Kuever had 12 assists for the Huskies.

Two days later, the Huskies defeated Creed and prevailed 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, and 25-13) in a home match. Nye had 11 aces, 10 kills, and a reception, plus Emily Davis added eight aces, eight receptions, a block, and a dig. Anderson had five kills, four aces, two digs, six receptions, and an assist, Marnett provided seven receptions and nine digs, Kuever had 10 assists on the day.

Two days later, Morgan lost on the road to Hale-Ray, 3-0.

Field Hockey

Morgan lost three recent contests and is now 3-8-3 on the season.

On Oct. 16, the Huskies lost to North Branford 7-0. The next day, Morgan was at Westbrook and took a 2-0 defeat. On Oct. 19, the Huskies lost at Suffield by a 2-0 final.

Football

The Morgan football team played a home game against Ellington on Oct. 20 and lost 33-7 to drop to 0-6 this year. The Huskies will next match up against Lewis Mills (0-6) at the Peters Complex on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
