Knights’ Field Hockey Wins a Pair; Girls’ Soccer Shuts Out Amistad

Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey team won two of its three games last week to put its record at 7-3-4 on the season.

On Oct. 17, the Knights hosted Morgan and defeated the Huskies 2-0. Lexi Koplas scored both goals for Westbrook in the second half. Alex Young and Katherine Dahl each had an assist for Westbrook, which saw Lauren Horne make fives in the cage.

Two days later, the Knights went up against Haddam-Killingworth on the road and lost 2-0.

On Oct. 21, Westbrook came back home to face Killingly and won 2-0. Lexi Koplas scored the first goal in the second half off an assist from Carolyn Bauman. Avery Bauman netted an unassisted goal for the Knights in the second half.

Girls’ Soccer

The Knights played two games last week, winning one of them to move their record to 5-9-1.

On Oct. 17, Westbrook headed to Coginchaug for a contest and lost 2-1. Two days later, the Knights were at home against Amistad and scored a resounding 7-0 victory. Westbrook can clinch a spot in states by defeating Amistad in its regular season finale on Oct. 24 (after press time).

Boys Soccer

Westbrook lost two contests last week and is now 4-10 for the year.

On Oct. 17, the Knights had a game at Coginchaug and lost 4-1. Then on Oct. 19, Westbrook faced North Branford on the road and dropped a 1-0 contest.

Girls’ Cross Country

Westbrook was represented by senior Halle Barron at last week’s Shoreline Conference Championship. Barron finished in 51st place by running a time of 25:47.
