The Haddam-Killingworth football team traveled to Nonnewaug for a Pequot League Sassacus Division contest and emerged with a 35-21 victory to pull even at 3-3 overall with a record of 2-2 in the division.

Dalton Modehn rushed for 213 yards on 22 carries, while Jake Frith gained 97 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns for the Cougars. H-K rushed for a total of 401 yards and scored touchdowns on five of its seven possessions in the victory

H-K opened the game with three straight touchdowns and took a 21-7 lead into halftime. After Nonnewaug scored on its first possession of the second half to draw within a score, the Cougars took control of the game. H-K scored on a key six-minute, 81-yard drive late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

“James Murphy responded to his first start at safety with solid pass defense, including a critical knockdown of a pass in the first half. Ricky Carson got substantial playing time for the first time and made good on it with solid play at defensive end and two special teams tackles deep in Nonnewaug territory,” said Head Coach Mike Baklik. “The past several times we’ve come to Nonnewaug, the games have gone down to the wire. This year, we’re glad it didn’t go that way. The offensive line was excellent today, making our running back’s jobs easy and helping us to maintain control of the game.”
