Morgan’s Soccer Squads Continue Their Winning Ways; Field Hockey Gets a Win and a Tie

Girls’ Soccer

The Huskies were victorious in both of last week’s matchups and are now 9-2-1 on the year.

On Oct. 10, Morgan was at Coginchaug and got a 3-0 win. Morgan went up early with a goal from Issy Ranaudo on helper from Alyssa LeMay to take a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Huskies put two more goals on the board after intermission with a Robyn Vuilleumier score from another LeMay assist, after which LeMay scored a goal with some help from Ranaudo. Rebecca Cockley had three saves for the Huskies, who had 13 shots on goal.

Then on Oct. 12, the Huskies grabbed a win at Westbrook by the score of 8-2. Courtney Viglione scored two goals and had two assists, while LeMay provided a goal and an assist. Brianna Navarra, Hallie DiCrosta, Carley Schmidt, Maura Kelly, and Allie Gardner all scored a goal, plus Grace Roman and Ranaudo added assists. Morgan put 16 shots on goal to Westbrook’s six, with Cockley making four saves in net.

Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team grabbed two wins in its two games during last week’s action. The victories improved the Huskies’ record to 8-2-1 on the season.

On Oct. 10, Morgan headed to Durham to face Coginchaug and won 5-1. Coginchaug put the first goal on the board at 14 minutes, but the Huskies equalized with a score from Juan Avila at the 24-minute mark. Avila put another one in the net soon after with a score at 30 minutes. Zach Tuccitto scored Morgan’s next two goals at 58 and 62 minutes, after which Avila completed his hat trick with the final goal of the game at 79 minutes. Avila added two assists, as did Ford Pender, while Tyler Newfield had a helper, as well.

Three days later, Morgan was on the road against Westbrook and won 4-0. The scoring didn’t get started until the second half, when Pender put one past the keeper at 57 minutes. Avila scored next at 67 minutes. Tuccitto and Pender netted the final two goals for Morgan. James Saturno had three assists in the game, while Avila added one for Morgan, which took 34 shots on net.

Field Hockey

Morgan played two contests last week, winning one and tying the other to move to 3-5-3.

On Oct. 10, the Huskies visited Norwich Free Academy and came home with a 4-0 victory.

Then on Oct. 12, Morgan hosted Haddam-Killingworth at the Indian River Complex and the two clubs played to a 1-1 stalemate. The Huskies managed to get the tie despite being outshot 20-7. Arden McQuarrie scored an unassisted goal for the Huskies. Abby Gordon was outstanding in the cage for Morgan by making 19 saves on 20 shots.

Boys’ Cross Country

Morgan headed to Old Lyme for the Shoreline Conference Mega Meet on Oct. 12, and a couple of Huskies came away with top-10 finishes. Sophomore Chase Lofgren earned second place with a time of 19:43 in the boys’ unseeded race, while senior Thomas Southwood grabbed ninth at 20:25.

Girls’ Cross Country

Morgan competed at the Shoreline Conference Mega Meet last week. Kate Daley came in second place in the girls’ unseeded race by clocking in at 20:56.
