North Haven Maroon Fall Ball Squad is Red Hot


The North Haven Maroon fall baseball team continued its winning ways last week by rattling off a trio of victories. The Maroon team posted a 5-0 shutout over the Connecticut Bombers and then swept a doubleheader against New Haven behind final scores of 10-0 and 6-4. In the second game of the doubleheader, North Haven trailed 4-2 before scoring four runs in the top of the last inning.

In the win over the Bombers, Hunter Garthwait pitched four hitless innings with seven strikeouts to get the victory for North Haven, which saw Leo Konopka, Chris Ciarleglio, and Luca Lawrence throw one scoreless inning apiece in relief. At the plate, Zack Pincince went 2-for-2 with a run, a RBI, and a stolen base; Kevin Lucey had a single with two RBI and a stolen base, Mike Salzano had a double with a RBI, Gianni DeMartino doubled and scored a run, and Nick Perillie singled, walked, and scored two runs.

The following weekend, Maroon took both ends of a doubleheader with New Haven. Ciarleglio pitched four scoreless innings with six strikeouts to get the win in the first game, after which Konopka tossed a scoreless fifth before it was called due to the mercy rule. Garthwait doubled, tripled, had a walk, scored two runs, and drove in a run for North Haven. Farina walked twice to go with a double, two runs scored, a pair of RBI, and a stolen base. Jason Ostrowski singled with two RBI, Andrew Laudano singled and doubled with a run and a RBI; Lucey singled, walked, and scored a run; and Perillie had a double with a run scored and a RBI in the 10-0 victory.

For the nightcap, North Haven was down 4-2 entering the top of the seventh inning, but plated four runs in the frame, and came away with a 6-4 victory. Lucey had a big day at the dish with two hits and three RBI, while Pincince tripled, scored a run, and produced three RBI. North Haven drew 11 walks in the win, including two apiece from Christian Somma, Farina, and DeMartino. Somma also stole a base and scored two runs, with Farina scoring a pair of runs to go with a base hit. Starting pitcher Nate Zalegowski allowed three runs (1 earned) in five innings. Lawrence earned the win by pitching two innings and allowing one unearned run.

In other action, the North Haven White fall ball squad recently dropped three contests. North Haven White lost 4-0 against the Diamond Zone to start its recent run of games. The next weekend, the team was swept by the Connecticut Bombers in a doubleheader, losing 7-5 and 8-2. Rossi threw two scoreless innings of relief in the first game. Danny Cannavaciolo went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Alex Page had a single with two RBI, while Anthony Cretella, Jason Landino, and Jack Peruso each hit a double for North Haven.

In the second game, Landino had a RBI for North Haven, which saw Cannavaciolo and Mason Balmer both get a hit and score a run.
