Old Saybrook Boys’ Soccer Improves to 9-0; Girls’ Soccer and Field Hockey Each Grab a Victory

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team had two games last week and captured a pair of victories to move to 9-0 on the season.

On Oct. 3, the Rams took on Coginchaug at home and won 5-2. Justin Phillips converted the first goal of the game in the first eight minutes on a pass from Paddy Ryan. Old Saybrook continued applying pressure and scored two more goals before intermission. One goal came from Austin Hilger off an assist from Phillips, after which Phillips set up Paddy Ryan for the other goal. Coginchaug scored a goal just before the half was over.

Old Saybrook maintained control of the game in the second half and scored two more goals. Noah Worman scored his first varsity goal with a well-placed header on a cross from Phillips. After their fourth goal, the Rams made several substitutions, and Coginchaug was unable keep up with the fresh legs. Anthony Karg scored Old Saybrook’s final goal at 68 minutes on a helper from Hayden Lockhart. Coginchaug got the final goal of the game to make it 5-2.

Old Saybrook took 23 shots on goal to the Blue Devils’ six. Jonah Nucci manned the net for the Rams, making two saves.

On Oct. 6, Old Saybrook hit the road to face off against Morgan at the Indian River Complex. The Rams won the match 2-1.

Girls’ Soccer

The Rams won one of their three games last week to move to 2-6-1 on the season.

On Oct. 2, Old Saybrook notched its second win of the year with a 3-2 home victory over Coginchaug. Three days later, the Rams went up against Morgan at the Indian River Complex and lost 4-1. Then on Oct. 7, the Rams’ lost at home to Norwich Free Academy, 3-0.

Field Hockey

Old Saybrook saw a little bit of everything in its three games last week, coming out with a win, a loss, and a tie to put its record at 3-5-1-1.

On Oct. 3, the Rams were at Westbrook and lost 4-1. Then on Oct. 5, they were on the road again to face Haddam-Killingworth, and the teams played to a 0-0 tie. To close the week on Oct. 7, Old Saybrook played at East Lyme and won by a 3-1 final.
