North Haven Fall Baseball Season Rolls On


The North Haven Maroon fall baseball team dropped a recent 5-4 decision to Cheshire, but bounced back by winning both ends of a doubleheader against Overlook. Meanwhile, North Haven White edged out the Diamond Zone, 4-3, before taking a 6-1 loss to Southington.

North Haven Maroon trailed Cheshire 5-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning and wound up scoring four runs, but Cheshire escaped with the 5-4 win. Mike Salzano went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored, and two RBI for North Haven. Kevin Lucey drew three walks, and Jake Bencivengo had a RBI single.

Facing Overlook for a doubleheader, North Haven Maroon won the first game 7-1 and took the second game 7-3. Nate Zalegowski pitched a one-hitter with one walk and allowed just one unearned run in the opener. Peyton Farina went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, three runs, a RBI, and a stolen base for North Haven. Lucey went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and a pair of RBI.

In the second game, Chris Ciarleglio earned the win by allowing three runs (1 earned) in four innings of work. Luca Lawrence threw three scoreless innings to close out the victory. Farina again went 3-for-3 with two doubles to go with two runs, a RBI, and two more stolen bases. Andrew Laudano was 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Zack Pincince, Bencivengo, and Leo Konopka also had RBI singles for North Haven.

North Haven White trailed the Diamond Zone 3-0 before scoring the game’s last four runs, including tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, for the 5-4 win. Ryan Sullivan earned the win by tossing three scoreless innings of relief for North Haven. At the plate, Anthony Cretella went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, John Gontarek was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Christian Somma and Colby Cusano had RBI singles, and Danny Cannavaciolo added a double.

North Haven White later dropped a 6-1 contest at Southington. Daniel Meyers took a tough loss by pitching seven innings in which he allowed four runs, three of which were earned. Jason Ostrowski, Cole Zalegowski, and Cannavaciolo all had two hits with Cannavaciolo also stealing two bases and scoring North Haven’s lone run, which was driven in by Anthony Cretella.
