Huskies’ Girls’ Soccer Wins Out the Week; Cross Country Honors Three on Senior Night

Girls’ Soccer

The Morgan girls’ soccer team had three contests last week and won all three games to bring their record to 5-2-1 on the season.

On Sept. 26, the Huskies were at Cromwell to face the undefeated Panthers and shut them out by the score of 3-0. Alyssa LeMay netted two goals, while Kylie Clifton scored one for Morgan in the win. Robyn Vuilleumier recorded an assist for the Huskies, who launched 10 shots on goal to Cromwell’s five. Rebecca Cockley made five saves in net to get the shutout.

Two days later, Morgan had another road matchup when it squared off against Haddam-Killingworth. The Huskies recorded their shutout on the week with a 5-0 victory against the Cougars. Morgan prevented Haddam-Killingworth from landing a single shot on goal in the game. Courtney Viglione had two goals and two assists for Morgan. Brianna Navarra also scored two goals, while LeMay had one. Vuilleumier had two assists, and Allie Gardner had one.

To close the week on Sept. 30, the Huskies faced non-conference opponent Sheehan and rallied from a 2-0 deficit to get a 3-2 win at home. LeMay, Viglione, and Vuilleumier scored the goals for Morgan. LeMay also had an assist, as did Alyssa Smith. The Huskies put six shots on goal to Sheehan’s three.

Volleyball

The Huskies played had three matches and grabbed a victory to even their record at 4-4.

On Sept. 25, Morgan was on the road against Creed and won the game by sweeping all three sets with scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-8. Senior Georgia Nye had six kills, six aces, five receptions, and a dig for the Huskies. Taylor Marnett added seven digs and four receptions on the day. Junior Mackensie Anderson scored seven aces and had two receptions, while fellow junior Ashley Annicelli had five aces and a dig. Sophomore Maggie Mahoney contributed with four aces, a kill, one dig, and a block.

On Sept. 27, the Huskies hosted Hale-Ray lost 3-1. Hale-Ray took the first two sets by finals 25-16 and 25-18. The Huskies won the third set 25-18, but then lost 25-11 in the fourth set. Nye had 13 kills, five digs, and an ace, while Marnett had 21 digs and 21 receptions for Morgan. Also, Annicelli had nine recpetions, seven blocks, and an ace; Anderson had 22 receptions, five digs, four blocks, and an assist; sophomore Charlotte Davenport had six blocks, two kills, and two digs; and fellow sophomore Sarah Kuever had 20 assists, 10 digs, two blocks, and two kills.

On Sept. 29, Morgan had a road match versus Fitch and lost 3-0.

Girls’ Cross Country

Senior Kate Daley was honored as part of the Morgan girls’ cross country team’s Senior Night festivities at their Husky Run meet at the Indian River Complex. Daley came in first place in the Husky Run for Morgan.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Huskies hosted their Senior Night as part of the Husky Run last week. At the meet, the Morgan boys’ team honored its senior athletes, Brett Martin and Thomas Southwood.

Football

Morgan played is road matchup against North Branford on Sept. 28 and lost by the final score of 41-2. The Huskies recorded a safety in the third quarter to account for their two points.

The Huskies (0-4) will next face Nonnewaug (0-3) at the Peters Complex at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6.

Field Hockey

Morgan took a pair of defeats last week and is now 1-4-3 this season.

On Sept. 28, the Huskies went up against Old Saybrook on the road and lost 4-1. Two days later, Morgan played host to Immaculate and dropped a 4-0 decision.
