North Haven Maroon Fall Ball Squad Racking Up the Wins


The North Haven Maroon fall baseball team was victorious in four recent matchups by earning an 8-7 win over Amity and a 12-5 victory against Overlook, after which the club swept a doubleheader with Branford behind 7-1 and 10-0 finals.

North Haven edged Amity on a walk-off by plating two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mike Salzano’s bases-loaded walk forced home Kevin Lucey with the tying run, after which Jason Ostrowski came home with the winning run on a wild pitch. Lucey went 2-for-4 with a run, a RBI, and a stolen base; while Jake Bencivengo singled, stole a base, and scored two runs. Leo Konopka pitched two scoreless innings of relief, and Zack Pincince got the win by tossing the next three innings.

Later that day, North Haven had another home game and beat Overlook 12-5. Chris Ciarlegio earned the win in relief behind two scoreless innings. Andrew Laudano and Danny Cannavaciolo combined to throw a scoreless seventh and close out the win. At the plate, Nate Zalegowski went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs, three RBI, and a stolen base; Pincince was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, and a RBI; and Lucey went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and three RBI. Dave Christoforo doubled, Salzano hit a triple, and Bencivengo had a nice all-around game by getting a single, drawing a walk, scoring a run, driving in a run, and swiping two bases.

The following weekend, North Haven Maroon took both ends of a doubleheader in Branford. In the first game, Ciarleglio started on the mound and got the win by allowing just one unearned run in five innings. Konpoka threw the final two frames to close out the 7-1 victory. Nick Perillie had a huge day at the plate by going 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk, a run scored, and four RBI. North Haven drew 12 walks in the win, including three by Gianni DeMartino and two apiece from Pincince and Ostrowski.

For the second game, Luca Lawrence pitched three scoreless innings for the win, after which Zalegowski threw the last two before the mercy rule was called with North Haven up 10-0. Konopka went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI; Farina was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, and a RBI; and Hunter Garthwait tripled, scored a run, and drove in a run for North Haven. Lucey went 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Pincince went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Also last weekend, North Haven White was swept by Amity in a doubleheader, losing the first game 8-6 and the second game 6-2. Christian Somma went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Nick Rossi was 2-for-2 with walk and a RBI, while Colby Cusano and Jack Peruso both doubled and scored two runs in the first game.

Peruso also doubled and drove home a run in the second game for North Haven White, whose other run was driven in by Rossi.
