Boys’ Soccer

Hand faced off against Law, Sheehan, and Fairfield Prep last week, going 2-0-1 in that stretch move to 5-0-1 overall with a record of 3-0 in SCC Housatonic Division.

The Tigers defeated Law 4-1 on Sept. 18. Hand controlled the ball for 80 percent of the game and had 13 shots on goal. Greyson McGeary scored his first varsity goal on a corner shot from Owen McShane for a 1-0 lead. McGeary followed with his second goal to give Hand a 2-0 lead, with Lee Wildermann getting the assist. Wildermann netted Hand’s third goal from Jason Wallack to put the Tigers up 3-0. With 12:34 to play in the game, Law scored a goal. Spencer Hartmann followed with his first varsity goal, and Hand went on to the 4-1 victory. The Tigers’ defense allowed only two shots on goal in the game.

“We played well. It took a while to break them down, but the boys were patient,” said Head Coach Stan Latkowski.

Hand next bested another division rival in Sheehan by a 2-1 final on Sept. 20. Sheehan took an early 1-0 lead by scoring off a corner kick, but Hand remained patient and tied the score on a goal by Nick Porte early in the second half. Trey Doktorski scored the go-ahead goal to put the Tigers up 2-1 with 25 minutes left in the game. Hand’s defense, led by Owen McShane, Liam Akers, Tommy LaTorre, and Cole Finke, shut down the Sheehan offense the rest of the way to solidify the victory.

“I’m proud of the way we fight back and find ways to win when we don’t play our best,” said Latkowski. “Every game, someone else steps up. Tonight it was Trey Doktorski and Nick Porte. The next three games will be a measuring stick to see where we are as a team.

The Tigers then tied Fairfield Prep 2-2 on Sept. 22. McShane scored both of Hand’s goals to help the Tigers remain unbeaten. Prep opened the scoring with a corner kick to take the lead. McShane followed with a goal on a direct kick from 40 yards out to make it 1-1. The Jesuits took a 2-1 when their center back scored on direct kick from around the same distance. McShane then tied the game for Hand by converting off a corner kick with about 12 minutes to play.
