North Haven Fall Ball Sees Two Teams Post Season-Opening Victories

The North Haven Fall Ball program is fielding two 18-U teams on the baseball diamond this year, and both teams began their campaigns by earning a victory. North Haven White won a 14-5 contest in New Haven, while North Haven Maroon was an 8-3 victor over DBI in a home game.

Daniel Meyers pitched a complete game when NH White blew out New Haven. Jack Peruso had a double with three RBI and a stolen base, Zack Pincince scored three runs to go with a hit and a RBI, Anthony Cretella was 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI; and Colby Cusano went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and a RBI for North Haven.

Meanwhile, NH Maroon rallied from a three-run deficit to beat DBI by the final of 8-3, breaking open a tie game with a five-spot in the sixth inning. Peyton Farina hit a home run as part of a 3-for-4 day in which he collected four RBI. Mike Salzano went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored, and a RBI; Leo Konopka singled with a run and two RBI, and Danny Cannavaciolo doubled to go with two runs scored for North Haven. On the mound, Hunter Garthwait allowed one run in three innings, Chris Ciarleglio gave up two unearned runs in two innings, and Andrew Laudano threw two scoreless innings to pick up the victory.

Last weekend, North Haven Maroon split a doubleheader against the Cadets by winning the first game 7-3 and losing the second game 5-4. In the opener, Ciarlegio allowed two runs (1 earned) in five innings to get the win, after which Garthwait and Pincince pitched the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Kevin Lucey homered to go with a single, two runs scored, and two RBI for North Haven. Gianni DeMartino had a double with a run and two RBI, Salzano singled, tripled, and scored a run; and Pincince walked, stolen a base, and scored three runs.

In the nightcap, the Cadets rallied from a 4-2 deficit by scoring one run in each of the last three innings, winning it in walk-off fashion by plating a run in the bottom of the seventh. Lucey singled, drew two walks, scored a run, and drove in a run; Jake Bencivengo had two singles with a stolen base, and Salzano added a pair of hits with a RBI.
