The East Haven football team started off its season with a 40-6 thumping of Bassick on the road in a SCC Tier 3 matchup on Sept. 9. The Easties scored points in every quarter and racked up 419 yards of offense en route to blowing out Bassick, which was playing its first game as a member of the SCC.

Sophomore Tanner DiVito completed 16 of his 21 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown that went to sophomore Michael Castellano, who had three receptions for 37 yards. Sophomore Jake Marquardt led the Yellowjackets with four catches and 78 yards, while sophomore Jacob Araujo had 52 receiving yards on four catches. On the ground, junior Michael Manning led the way for East Haven with 112 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Senior Paul Diaz scored one TD and ran for 46 yards.

Defensively, plenty of Easties contributed to the victory, including senior Seth Proto, who led the team with 12 tackles; and Castellano, who finished with 11. Manning, junior Nate Palacios, junior Josh Rao, and sophomore George Paris all recorded one sack in the victory. Junior kicker Evan Damian connected on a 42-yard field goal for Head Coach Melvin Wells’s club.
