The Hand cheerleading team attended the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) Camp at Solid Ground Stunts in Westfield, Massachusetts once again this summer. The event was a four-day camp that saw participants learn cheers, dance, and stunts.

The Tigers had 15 girls and three boys attend the camp. Six athletes from Hand were selected to the UCA 2017 All-American Team in Gina Ciotti, Chloe Scott, Brooke Esposito, Sydney Dempsey, Izzy Carusone, and Ben Morin. The members of this team were invited to march in the New Year’s Day Parade in London, England, where each athlete will perform his or her best jump, cheer, and a dance individually. Participants were chosen by the UCA staff, and there were more than 100 athletes who tried out for this team.

The Tigers also took home first place in the cheer competition and were second in the dance competition at the UCA camp, while competing against eight other teams. Hand’s Heidi Whelahan was presented with the Pin it Forward Award by a UCA staff member. This is a prestigious award that highlights a cheerleader who stands out in terms of leadership, attitude, and hard work throughout the week. Additionally, Hand was invited to attend the Orange Bowl after being selected as one of the superior teams at camp.

Hand’s cheerleaders also performed at the Strong House Adult Day Center this summer and had a blast working hard to help out their elderly friends. The Tigers joined the residents to dance, cheer, and tumble for them, and then mingled with the crowd after their performance.
