The Westbrook Dance Academy senior competition team performed at the World Dance Championship in Secaucus, New Jersey on Aug. 5 and finished in fourth place in the 15-19 Small Group Division. The team competed against qualifying dancers from across the United States, Canada, France, China, Mexico, Australia, and Great Britain at the meet. Of the more than 200,000 routines that are performed in the Star Dance Alliance each year, few of them qualify for the World Dance Championship. Westbrook Dance Academy qualified for the World Championship with its performance of Pandemonium at the Starpower Talent Regional Competition in Hartford this March.

Pandemonium advanced to the finals World Dance Championship by finishing in the top five in the semifinal round in one of the largest divisions at the competition. The team was also presented with the Outstanding Performance Award in the division for its commitment to character. In the finals, the team delivered another excellent performance en route to its fourth-place finish. This marked the second time in three years that the Westbrook Dance Academy senior competition team has placed at the World Dance Championship. Senior competition team members Brandi Andrade and Victoria Holton are from Westbrook; Mara Kelley, Katherine Izadi, and Courtney Briggs are from Old Saybrook, and Miles Waterbury is from Clinton.
