Madison Little League Wins Two More at Regionals Before Losing to Massachusetts


The Madison 9-10 All-Stars Little League baseball team won two more games at the U-10 Northeast Regional championship before seeing its run come to an end with a 9-8 defeat to Massachusetts in the regional final on Aug. 11. Madison, which reached the regional by winning the first state title in the town’s Little League history, had previously defeated Maine and Massachusetts at the Northeast Regional in Cranston, Rhode Island.

On Aug. 8, Madison defeated Vermont 8-4 at the Regional Championship. Johnny Reh earned the win on the mound for Madison by throwing 2.2 innings in which he struck out three. Madison took an early lead in the first inning by scoring on a walk, a single by Paul Calandrelli, a stolen base, and then a single by Aidan Doyle. Vermont came back to score four runs in the third inning, but three relievers helped Madison close out the victory. Calandrelli threw two innings, while Chase Geremia recorded the last out to earn the save. Madison collected 11 hits in the win, with Calandrelli, Doyle, Geremia, and Christian Kells all getting multiple hits. Calandrelli led the way by going 4-for-4 for Madison, which didn’t commit an error in the game.

Madison then defeated Rhode Island 5-3 on Aug. 9. The game was tied at 2 with Madison batting in the top of the fourth inning, when Madison took the lead for good by scoring three runs. Geremia doubled home two runs during the big rally. Kells went 2-for-3 at the plate for Madison, didn’t make an error for the second straight game.

On Aug. 11, Madison dropped a 9-8 decision to Massachusetts in the regional final.
