The Essex Corinthian Yacht Club is pleased to present its premier annual regatta, the Cross Sound Challenge, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The Cross Sound Challenge is an exciting race in Eastern Long Island Sound, originating from the area near the Outer Light of Saybrook Point, leading across the Sound to the north shore of Long Island, and then returning to the starting area. Each year, 30 to 40 sailboats of varying lengths and designs compete in spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes for the coveted trophies that are awarded to the winners. A post-race party will be held at Brewer Essex Island in Essex after the boats have returned from the regatta in the late afternoon. Food and drinks will be served, and a live band will provide musical entertainment. This award-winning event typically draws 250 to 300 area sailors, crews, and friends to celebrate the day, as well as enjoy the camaraderie among like-minded acquaintances.

Owners of Performance Handicap Racing Fleet-rated sailboats can enter the regatta by registering at yachtscoring.com. Moorings will be available at a discount from Brewer Dauntless Marina at 860-767-8267. The Essex Corinthian Yacht Club is currently looking for sponsors for this event. To become a sponsor, contact the club at 860-767-3239. For info, visit www.essexcorinthian.org/ecyc-cross-soundchallenge.
