The North Branford High School cheerleading team recently attended a summer training camp that was sponsored by the New England Cheerleaders Association (NECA). The Thunderbirds turned in a great showing at the camp that resulted in several awards on both the team and individual levels.

At the NECA camp, individual jump ribbons were awarded to North Branford’s Kaley Oliverio, Annika Pearson, Brooke Hammond, and Maddie Humphrey. Humphrey was also named the best jumper at the camp, while tumbling ribbons were earned by Humphrey, Oliverio, and Jessica Armin.

The Most Improved Award went to Lucia Nuzzo, and teammate Kaley Bonaldo was the recipient of the Dianna Riley Award. Hip hop dance medals were earned by Armin, who finished in second place; and Humphrey, who took fourth place. Captains awards were received by Marisa D’Amico and Brooke Hammond.

Hammond, Bonaldo, Oliverio, and Ariana Esposito captured first place in the Advance Top Gun Stunting category. Oliverio earned second place, and Humphrey took third as the best high school cheerleader at the camp.

Additionally, North Branford racked up plenty of team awards at the NECA camp, including Electrifying Skills Ribbon, Radiating Spirit Ribbon, Best Dance Plaque, Best Tumbling Plaque, Best Attitude Trophy, Spirit Stick, the runner-up ribbon for the staff poster, and second place for Grand Champs.
