Post 48 Seniors Eliminated from States; Juniors Finish 2nd in Their Zone

Senior Legion Baseball

The Guilford Senior Legion baseball team completed its regular season last week before seeing its campaign come to a close with a loss against East Haven in the first round of the State Tournament. Post 48 finished the year with a record of 18-11.

Guilford earned the 11th seed in the Southern Division Sectional portion of states and took a 3-2 defeat to No. 14 East Haven in the single-elimination portion of the bracket on July 15.

Previously, on July 9, Guilford swept Zone 3 opponent East Haddam in a doubleheader by 7-1 and 2-1 finals. Tyler Rogers pitched for Guilford in the first game, and Matt McGrath took to the hill for Post 48 in the second contest.

Post 48 closed its regular season with a 4-2 loss to Meriden on July 12. Jack Strand (5 innings), Logan Hitchcock (1), and Tommy Cattaneo (1) pitched for Guilford, which finished in fourth place in Zone 3 at 18-10.

Junior Legion Baseball

The Post 48 Junior Legion baseball squad finished in second place in the Zone 5-3 standings by posting a regular season record of 12-6 in zone play. Guilford is competing in the State Tournament that runs from Monday, July 17 through Sunday, July 30.

Last week, Guilford edged Danbury by a 2-1 margin on July 9. Michael Stebbins pitched 6.2 innings for Post 48 in the victory.

The next day, Guilford earned a 9-6 victory over Middletown. JP Murtagh (4.2 innings), Ethan Vashel (2.1), and John Petonito (1) pitched for Post 48 in the win.

Post 48 finished the regular season with a 4-3 victory over Meriden on July 15. James Walker (4 innings), Casey Johnson (2), and Kevin Ciardiello (1) pitched for Guilford, which went 14-7 overall for the regular season.
