Branford Senior Legion Takes Three from West Haven; Junior Legion Sweeps Doubleheader with New Haven

Senior Legion Baseball

The Branford Senior Legion baseball squad recently played a slew of Zone 2 matchups, sweeping a three-game series from West Haven to go with a 13-0 blowout over New Haven, along with defeats versus New Haven and Hamden. Post 83 now owns a record of 8-10 in its Zone 2 games this summer.

On June 29, Branford hosted North Haven in the rubber game of a three-game series and dropped a 4-2 decision. Then on July 1, Branford had a home doubleheader against West Haven and took both ends of it behind final scores of 3-1 and 6-1. The following day, Post 83 capped the sweep by prevailing 10-1 at West Haven. After a day off, Branford was back on the field on July 3, when it posted a 13-0 victory in New Haven. Two days later, New Haven came back to grab a 5-2 victory in Branford. Post 83 wrapped up the week with doubleheader at Hamden on July 8 and dropped a 6-0 decision to go with a 3-1 defeat.

Junior Legion Baseball

The Post 83 Juniors recently swept a doubleheader from New Haven to sit in second place in the Zone standings with a record of 7-4-1.

Branford hosted New Haven for two games on July 8, claiming a 7-6, walk-off victory by plating a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the opening contest, after which Post 83 prevailed by an 8-7 final in the nightap.

Previously in the week, Branford took a 13-3 defeat at Hamden on July 1 and lost by a 12-2 final in Milford on July 3.

Prep Legion Baseball

Branford was on the field for six recent games and came away with two victories to stand at 6-5 in Zone B play to go with an overall record of 6-7-1.

Post 83 began its stretch by posting a 1-0 home shutout over zone opponent Wallingford on June 30. Two days later, Branford played a non-zone game at Fairfield and took a 13-5 defeat. Then on July 5, Branford had a game at Zone B foe Wolcott and took a 6-5 loss when Wolcott scored two runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning. The day after that, Post 83 played another zone game when it hosted West Haven, which edged out Branford, 5-4. Branford closed the week by playing a road doubleheader against Zone opponent Meriden and split the pair, winning the first game 3-2 and then taking a 4-3 defeat in the second contest.
