Laney Sherry, a Madison resident and member of the Heronettes intermediate synchronized swimming team, competed for the Heronettes at the Bay State Games in Worcester, Massachusetts on Sunday, June 11. Representing the Heronettes as the only synchronized swimmer from Connecticut, Sherry competed as part of the Junior Development Division for athletes aged 12 and under and came away from the event with a gold medal.

The event began with a USA synchro levels clinic in the morning, and then a competition in a number of synchro divisions was held in the afternoon. Laney, age 10, performed her solo Pompeii, a routine for which she has earned several medals this season, including two golds and one bronze. Once again, Sherry won the gold medal in the 12-and-under Junior Development Division. This win qualifies her to compete in the biennial State Games of America in either in Grand Rapids, Michigan later this summer or in Lynchburg, Virginia in 2019, as she will be competing with State Games medal winners from across the nation.
