Guilford Senior Legion Piles Up the Wins in a Big Week

Senior Legion Baseball

After sweeping a doubleheader from East Haddam, the Guilford Senior Legion baseball team posted a pair of victories versus both Wallingford and Madison in last week’s action. Post 48 improved to 11-6 on the campaign with these wins.

On June 18, Guilford swept a doubleheader at East Haddam with final scores of 9-6 and 6-0. After that, Post 48 had home games against Wallingford on June 20 and June 21, winning the first game 7-1 and the second contest by the final score of 2-0. Kevin Cargos pitched a complete game for Post 48 in the opener and Casey Johnson worked all seven innings of the second contest. Guilford closed the week by taking on rival Madison for a three-game series and winning two of three. Guilford earned a 9-2 home win over Post 79 on June 22 and then split a doubleheader at Madison on June 24, prevailing 9-0 in the opener and then dropping the nightcap by a 6-1 score. Tommy Cattaneo pitched six solid innings in the 9-2 triumph, and Matthew McGrath threw a complete-game shutout when Post 48 blanked Madison 9-0 in the first game of the weekend doubleheader.

Junior Legion Baseball

The Post 48 Junior Legion baseball squad improved to 5-4 in Zone 3 and 7-5 overall after winning two of its three games last week. Guilford beat Hamden and Oxford before dropping a contest to Danbury.

Guilford opened up the week by posting a 1-0 shutout at non-zone opponent Hamden on June 22. James Walker pitched 5.1 innings for Post 48. The next day, Guilford edged out Zone 3 Oxford by a 7-6 final at home. Alviti worked 4.2 innings on the mound for Guilford. The day after that, Post 48 dropped a 3-2 decision at Danbury in a Zone 3 macthup. Kevin Ciardiello threw seven innings in the one-run defeat.
