Senior Sam Moran and junior Matthew Newfield of the Morgan boys’ tennis team recently completed their season after reaching the semifinal round in the doubles bracket at the Class S State Championship. This represents the furthest that any Huskies’ duo has progressed in the state tournament.

Moran and Newfield were the No. 3 seed and received a first round bye in the Class S Championship, after which they won a 6-3, 6-3 decision in the second round. In the third round, the duo defeated the 14th-seeded team from Windsor Locks by a 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 10-6 score to advance to the quarterfinals. Moran and Newfield were victorious, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, against the 6th-seeded team from Old Lyme in their quarterfinal matchup. They then took a 6-3, 6-1 defeat to East Catholic’s 2nd-seeded team in the semifinals.
