Gebril Sprints to Victory in the 400, Places 9th Overall at CIAC Decathlon

Omar Gebril and Robert Farley competed on behalf of the North Haven boys’ outdoor track team at the CIAC Decathlon, with Gebril recording a ninth-place finish by scoring 4,995 points in the final competition of his high school career. Gebril placed first in the 400-meter dash as part of the event, which took place on June 13 and 14 at Willow Brook Park in New Britain.

Gebril ran a time of 51.25 seconds in the 400 to defeat runner-up Joseph Antaya of Amity (52.15) on day one of the decathlon. It was the 12th career postseason victory for Gebril, who’s won the 400 at the Class MM State Championship in each of the last two seasons. Gebril also took fifth place in the 100-meter dash on day one of the decathlon by clocking in at 11.63 seconds. Additionally that day, Gebril finished 13th in the high jump (5 feet-5.75 inches), 15th in the shot put (33-7.25), and 26th for the long jump at 18-1.5.

Then on day two, Gebril’s best performance was a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:42.09. He also placed seventh in the javelin (128-7), 11th in the discus (86-9), and 14th in the 110 hurdles (18.10) on the afternoon.

Farley, who was a sophomore for the Indians this year, finished 23rd in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet-7.5 inches to highlight his performance at the decathlon. Farley also placed 32nd in the 100 (12.18), 36th in the 400 (56.62), 42nd for the high jump (4-11.75), and 58th in the long jump (16-4.5). Overall, Farley scored 2,407 points at the decathlon and finished in 41st place.
