Old Saybrook Golf Hits the Links at States; Girls’ 4x8 Places in State Open

The Old Saybrook golf team finished in 13th place with a score 374 in the Division IV Golf Championship at Crestbrook Park in Watertown on June 5.

Kyle Savino was the low man for the Rams with a score of 82 for his 18-hole round on the par-71 course. Jack Walsh turned in a scorecard of 96, James DePalermo had a score of 97, Dean Nobile shot a 99, and Jason Rothman scored a 102 for Old Saybrook.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Jessica Stratton, senior Alyssa Diaz, sophomore Tehra Givehand, and freshman Grace Hanratty earned a point for the Rams at the State Open Championship. Old Saybrook’s quartet ran a time of 9:47.29 and finished in eighth place at the Open, which took place at New Britain’s Willow Brook Park on June 5.

Old Saybrook was represented by a few other athletes at the Open. Junior Tyra Finkeldey finished 11th in the pole vault after clearing a height of 10 feet. Senior Devyn King competed in the long jump and placed 11th with a distance of 16 feet-4.25 inches. Also, the Rams’ 4x400 relay of King, senior Holly Coppes, freshman Allison Cody, and Finkeldey finished 21st with a time of 4:14.56.

Boys Outdoor Track

A handful of athletes represented Old Saybrook at last week’s State Open Championship.

Junior Eric Sultini placed 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.50 for the Rams. Sophomore Shane Henderson got 18th place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:29.34. The Rams’ 4x400 relay team of junior Jalen Johnson, senior Austin Reynolds, junior Xavier Rios, and Sultini ran a time of 3:31.16 and finished in 19th place. The 4x800 relay of senior Josh Change, Henderson, senior Daniel Baldi, and Sultini also qualified for the meet.
