T-Birds’ Girls’ Lacrosse Reaches First Shoreline Final, Finishes 15-5; Track Teams Compete at States

Girls’ Lacrosse

The North Branford girls’ lacrosse team reached its first Shoreline Conference Tournament final and faced off against Old Lyme on May 25. Top-seeded Old Lyme posted a 11-9 victory over the Thunderbirds at the Indian River Complex in Clinton.

Adriana Ingarra scored three goals, while Sydney Hogan and Tara Lauro each scored two goals. Jessie Kilburn and Stephanie Seymour added one goal apiece for the T-Birds, who had posted a 12-11 win over Old Saybrook in the Shoreline semis to reach the championship game.

On May 30, North Branford began play in the Class S State Tournament as the No. 6 seed and cruised to a 20-8 home victory versus No. 11 Montville behind a 13-goal performance from Hogan. Ingarra scored three goals, while Emilie Wilkinson, Lauro, Emmy Norton, and Seymour all had one goal. Elissa Nuzzo made seven saves to earn the win in net.

Two days later, North Branford lost to No. 3 seed Canton, 16-13, in the quarterfinals to end its season with a record of 15-5. Hogan scored five goals to go with three assists, Lauro had three goals, Wilkinson and Kilburn both scored two goals, and Norton had a goal with three assists.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Thunderbirds took part in the Class M State Championship at Willow Brook Park in New Brtiain on May 30 and saw two athletes post points to give the team a 27th-place finish.

North Branford’s top performance came from Winnie Chan as she placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet-10 inches to score four points. MacKeznie Glenn scored two points in the long jump as she reached 15 feet-9 inches to finish seventh.

Other performances for the T-Birds came from Chan in the long jump (10th place, 15-5.25) and triple jump (15th, 31-6), Erika Roof in the 400 (14th, 1:03.83), Grace Little in the 100 (18th, 13.86 seconds) and 200 (10th, 27.79), Jenna Bryden in the 200 (23rd, 28.60), Lydia Mattson in the 300 hurdles (31st, 55.44), and Glenn in the 200 (37th, 29.48). North Branford’s 4x100 relay team of Roof, Little, Glenn, and Bryden finished 15th with a time of 53.06 seconds.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

North Branford competed at last week’s Class S State Championship and was led by its 4x400 relay team of Michael Rabuffo, Jacob Marshall, Austin Gibilisco, and Michael Madoule, who placed sixth with a time of 3:36.04 to score three points and put the T-Birds in 32nd place at the meet.

Individual competitors for the T-Birds included Madoule in the 400 (13th, 53.68), Marshall in the 100 (20th place, 11.64 seconds) and 200 (17th, 24.22), and Rabuffo in the 200 (20th, 24.39.
