On May 5, the Old Saybrook Parks and Recreation Department’s (OSPR) Teen Center held its annual Home Run Derby Contest during its Friday night teen center hours. This year’s contest included 32 participants in three divisions for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. There were three rounds that featured 10 pitches per round. Every pitch or hit had a score value, so that each participant had a variety of ways to accumulate points. Whether it be by a strike for one point or by hitting into one of the basketball hoops for 20 points, participants were able to put up some big numbers.

The 6th-grade champion was Marlin Stavola, who had a total score of 85 points. In the 7th- and 8th-grade divisions, brothers Nick and Matt Rothman each took home a win, respectively. Seventh-grader Nick Rothman scored 54 points, while 8th-grader Matt Rothman totaled 65 points.

The OSPR thanks all of the players who participated in the tournament. For more info on OSPR programming, visit www.oldsaybrookrec.com.
