Huskies’ Track Teams Finish 6th at Conference Meet; Baseball, Boys’ Lacrosse Lose in Shoreline Semifinals

Girls' Outdoor Track

The Huskies' girls' outdoor track squad competed at the Shoreline Conference Championship at Morgan High School on May 24. The Huskies placed sixth overall with 52 points scored as a team.

Kate Daley came away with a victory in the 3,200-meter run by running a time of 11:40.13—more than 20 seconds faster than runner-up Adriana Wimler (12:01.22) of Coginchaug—to earn a spot on the All-Shoreline Conference First Team.

Many other Huskies also earned points at the meet, including the 4x800 relay of Daley, Allison Gardner, Maura Kelly, and Isabella Ranaudo (2nd, 10:03.68, All-Shoreline Second Team); the 4x100 relay of Alyssa LeMay, MiKayla Mancini, Jordan Suraci, and Taylor Wyatt (5th, 52.74); and the 4x400 relay of Gardner, Kelly, Ranaudo, and Courtney Viglione (5th, 4:22.70).

Other individuals who put up points were Alyssa Robinson (4th, 16.85) in the 100 high hurdles, Taylor Wyatt in the 100 (5th, 13.29) and 200 (7th, 28.28), Viglione (6th, 1:03.95) in the 400, Gardner (5th, 2:28.88) in the 800, Samantha Mena (5th, 81-10) in the discus, and Mikayla Mancini for the triple jump (5th, 32-10.25).

On May 13, the Huskies competed at the Running Rams Invitational in Old Saybrook, where some athletes took home top-three finishes. Daley earned first in the 3,200 with a time of 11:41.04. Alyssa Robinson claimed second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.01. Also, the 4x800 relay team of Raunado, Gardner, Kelly, and Daley finished second with a time of 10:24.05.

Boys' Outdoor Track

Morgan placed sixth overall by scoring 45 points at last week's Shoreline Conference Championship meet.

The Huskies saw many of their athletes score points, including the 4x800-meter relay team of Thomas Southwood, Brett Martin, Justin Mucha, and Chase Lofgren, who earned fourth place with a time of 8:36.94; in addition to the 4x100 relay of Bryce Thomas, Jhan Bermeo, Juan Avila, and Patrick Wilson (4th, 45.75); and the 4x400 relay of Thomas Southwood, Henry Southwood, Lofgren, and Wilson (6th, 3:46.51).

Other athletes who scored points in individual events were Thomas, who finished second in the 200 (24.04) to make the All-Shoreline Conference Second Team and also took third in the 100 at 11.6, along with Thomas Southwood (6th, 53.85) in the 400, Anes Gadun for the 300 hurdles (6th, 44.78) and 110 high hurdles (7th, 25.0), and Juan Avila in the triple jump (3rd, 38-9) and long jump (4th, 19-11.5).

On May 13, Morgan competed at the Running Rams Invitational, and a number of athletes recorded points for the Huskies. Among them were Bryce Thomas, who claimed first in the 100 with a time of 11.69 seconds; as well as Avila (2nd, 37-10.5) in the triple jump; and the 4x100 relay of Thomas, Wilson, Bermeo, and Avila (3rd, 46.71).

Golf

The Huskies competed in the Shoreline Conference Championship at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain on May 23 and recorded a team score of 352. Ultimately, Morgan finished sixth in the conference standings with 13 points based on its record and performance at the Conference Championship.

At the Shoreline meet, Jack Bugg shot the lowest score with 76 for the Huskies. The next lowest score belonged to Burton Caldwell with an 83. Ryan Powers turned in a score of 95, while Olivia Powers had a score of 98. Additionally, Jack Bugg was named All-Shoreline Conference Second Team for the Huskies.

Baseball

Morgan played two games as part of the Shoreline Conference Tournament last week.

On May 23, the Huskies defeated East Hampton 5-1 in the conference quarterfinals. The next day, the Huskies lost to Cromwell 6-0 in the semifinal round.

Morgan will be competing in this week's Class S State Tournament.

Boys' Lacrosse

Morgan played at Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals last week. The Huskies took a 12-9 loss against the Cougars on May 23.

Girls' Tennis

Morgan defeated Portland by a 6-1 score on May 23.

In singles play, Emma Phelps was victorious 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, Becca Walton won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, and Yashveen Rai claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3. In doubles, Brenna Andrews and Lily Cummings won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Becca Cockley and Grace Hull posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, and Bea Atengco and Melanie Corretti prevailed 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 for the No. 3 match.
