Urban Throws No-No as Huskies Go to 12-0; Boys’ Lacrosse Takes Two of Three

Baseball

The Morgan baseball team was victorious in its two games this past week to improve its record to 12-0 on the season.

In their first game on April 24, the Huskies won at home against Coginchaug, 2-1, as John Urban tossed a no-hitter and struck out six to earn the win. On April 28, Morgan traveled to Old Lyme and won decisively by a score of 12-0.

Softball

Morgan played a quartet of recent games and gained a split to move to 5-6 this year.

On April 23, Huskies hosted Old Saybrook and won 9-8. Freshman Sage Follo earned the win on the mound, while sophomore Rebecca Shamp scored four runs and drove in two. Freshman Sarah Kuever added three base hits.

The following day, Morgan played Coginchaug and lost 23-0. On April 27, the Huskies were home for Westbrook and won a 21-7 contest. The next day, the Huskies lost to East Hampton 11-6.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Huskies played three games on the road last week and won two of them to stand at 6-5. Morgan’s first game was in Old Lyme, where the Huskies won 16-7 on April 26. The next day, the Huskies went to Old Saybrook won 11-5. Just 24 hours later, Morgan squared off against Valley Regional and dropped a 12-9 decision.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Morgan was at home for three games last week and took three defeats to move to 0-9. The Huskies hosted Valley Regional on April 24 and lost 11-10. In their next game, the Huskies were up against Old Saybrook and lost by an 11-6 final. On April 28, Old Lyme came to town to battle the Huskies and Morgan took a 14-2 defeat.

Boys’ Golf

The Huskies hit the links for the three matches last week and came away with two wins, bringing their record to 4-4. On April 26, Morgan was up against Cromwell and Valley Regional at Clinton Country Club. Morgan shot a 208 to beat the Warriors (233), while losing to Cromwell (180). Two days later, the Huskies were on the road to compete against Hale-Ray. Morgan outshot the Noises, 201-206, to get the victory.

Girls’ Golf

Morgan played a single contest last week at the Madison Country Club. The Huskies lost to Hand 224-243 on April 27.

Boys’ Tennis

The Huskies lost both of their matches last week to make their record 7-3 on the season.

In its matchup on April 28, Morgan was edged, 4-3, by Old Saybrook. In singles play, junior Matt Newfield won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. In doubles, the sophomore team of Paddy Murray and Chris Nuzzo won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1; while sophomore Sean Cockley and junior Drew Marzano won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.

Additionally, the Huskies had a home match against Westbrook and lost 5-2. Newfield won 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, plus Cockley and Marzano won 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.

Girls’ Tennis

The Huskies had two contests last week and lost both matches for a mark of 2-7.

Morgan played Westbrook and lost 6-1 on April 24. In singles play, junior Yashveen Rai won 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.

On April 27, the Huskies hosted Old Saybrook and lost 6-1. The duo of Brenna Andrews and Lily Cummings won their doubles match, 6-3, 6-3.
