Old Saybrook Girls’ Lacrosse Perfect on the Week; Softball Gets Two Victories

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Rams’ girls’ lacrosse squad won all three of its matches last week to bring its record to 7-3.

Old Saybrook defeated North Branford 19-14 at home on April 25. Junior Kendall Hartt netted 10 goals, while sophomore Mandy Beck added three goals and four assists. Sophomore Kelsey True also had three goals, and fellow sophomore Allie Kelenbach had a goal with an assist.

On April 27, the Rams faced off against Morgan and won 11-6. Two days later, Old Saybrook prevailed at Stonington, 14-8.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Old Saybrook lost two games last week and is now 1-7 on the season. Previously, junior goalkeeper Keaton Roarick broke Connecticut’s all-time saves record for boys’ lacrosse and currently has 826 career saves.

Last week, the Rams were at home against Morgan and lost 11-5 on April 27. Senior Christos Ellinas had two goals for Old Saybrook. Ashton Reina notched a goal and an assist, as did Cameron Grillo.

Two days later, the Rams were at North Branford and took a 10-8 defeat. Grillo scored four goals in the contest, while Reina added three. Senior Jefferson Yanza also scored a goal for Old Saybrook.

Softball

Old Saybrook played three games last week and won two of them. The Rams are now 3-9 on the season.

In their first game of the week, the Rams faced Westbrook at home and won 12-9 on April 24. Senior captain Kirsten King went 3-for-5 with three singles, sophomore Mave Foley went 2-for-3 with three RBI, junior pitcher Carly Michaud went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and sophomore Sarah Howley was 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI.

On April 27, the Rams were at home to play Old Lyme and won 8-1. King went 2-for-4 with two singles, Michaud went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and three RBI, while junior Chloe Root and senior Megan Schulmeister both had doubles for the Rams.

Two days later, Old Saybrook closed the week on the road against East Hampton and lost 8-3.

Baseball

Old Saybrook played two games last week and came away with a win to move to 5-6.

In their first game, the Rams traveled to East Hampton and lost 2-1 on April 24. Senior Bryan Schuster went 1-for-2 with a RBI.

On April 28, Old Saybrook was home to face North Branford and lost 4-1. Junior Haydon Lockhart went 2-for-2 with a run scored for Old Saybrook.

The next day, the Rams were back on the road against Cromwell and picked up the win, 2-1. Freshman Jack Colella went 2-for-3 with a run scored, plus sophomore Jaden Rolon went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Girls’ Tennis

Old Saybrook played a pair of matches last week and collected wins in both to put its record at 8-1. In their first match, the Rams defeated Portland on the road, 7-0, on April 24. Old Saybrook then went to Clinton to face Morgan and posted a 6-1 win on April 27.

Boys’ Tennis

The Rams had two contests last week and won them both to move to 8-1. Old Saybrook’s first contest was at home against Portland and the Rams beat the Highlanders 7-0 on April 24. Later in the week, the Rams played a tough match against Morgan that they ultimately won, 4-3.

Golf

The Rams played four contests last week and grabbed a split to bring their record to 4-5.

On April 25, played against Cromwell at TPC River Highlands and beat the Panthers 184-191. Junior Jay DePalermo and freshman Jack Walsh led Old Saybrook as both golfers shot a 44. Jason Rothman shot a 47, and junior Dean Nobile turned in a scorecard of 49.

Two days later, the Rams competed against Haddam-Killingworth at the Black Birch Golf Club and lost 178-179. Junior Kyle Savino and Rothman both shot a 42, followed by Nobile with a 47 and DePalermo with a 48.

Th following day Old Saybrook matched up against Wheeler and Stonington at the Stonington Country Club. The Rams bested Wheeler (188-227) and lost to Stonington (168-188). On the par-36 course, Savino shot a 43, while Walsh turned in a 47. Rothman and Nobile both scored a 49 for the Rams.
