The Old Saybrook boys’ outdoor track team competed against Shoreline Conference foes Creed and Haddam-Killingworth at H-K High School on April 18. Old Saybrook beat H-K 85-65 and defeated Creed 105-39 at the meet.

James Vukovinsky won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.20 seconds and was also first for the 300 intermediate hurdles at 46.30. Freshman Luke Hanratty triumphed in the 800-meter run (2:09.50), while senior Dan Baldi earned first in the 1,600 (4:52.90). In the 3,200, sophomore Shane Henderson blew away the competition by running 10:01.80, which was 27 seconds faster than the runner-up. Senior Austin Reynolds garnered first-place honors in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet-3 inches. The Rams’ quartet of Jalen Johnson, Carlos Chacon, Austin Reynolds, and John Gableman earned first in the 4x100 relay with a time of 46.20; the 4x800 of Henderson, Eric Sultini, Xavier Rios, and Joshua Change triumphed in 8:33.10; and the 4x400 of Sultini, Reynolds, Xavier Rios, Hanratty won with their time of 3:44.70.

The Rams were at Haddam-Killingworth High School for a tri-match against the host Cougars and Creed on April 18.

Sophomore Isabella Donahue earned first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.0 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, senior Devyn King placed first behind a time of 1:01.08, Tyra Finkeldey took first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.40 and freshman Grace Hanratty placed first for the 800 with a time of 2:32. Junior Alyssa Layte earned first place in both the shot put (28-feet 5.5-inches) and the discus (82-2.5). In the javelin, junior Annea Thaci won first with a distance of 83-4.5 and she also prevailed in the triple jump at 33-4.75. In the pole vault, Finkeldey claimed first by clearing 9 feet. Sophomore Rachel Vigorita grabbed first in the high jump with a height of 4-10.

Old Saybrook played two matches last week and collected a pair of wins to put its record at 6-1. In their first matchup, the Rams defeated Old Lyme on the road, 4-3, on April 17. Old Saybrook was back at home against North Branford on April 19 and posted a 7-0 shutout on April 19.

The Rams had two contests last week and them both to move to 6-1 for the year. Old Saybrook’s first contest was at home against Old Lyme and the Rams beat the Wildcats 5-2 on April 17. On April 19, the Rams hosted North Branford and won 6-1.

Old Saybrook split two games last week to stand with a record of 4-4 this spring.

In their first game, the Rams traveled to Moodus to battle Hale-Ray and won 5-3 on April 17. The Rams trailed 3-1 before drawing even with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, after which they went up 5-3 with two runs in the sixth. Sophomore Dan Cote was winning pitcher, while freshman Jack Colella earned the save.

In their first game, the Rams faced Sheehan at home and lost 13-2 on April 15. Two days later, Old Saybrook traveled to Hale-Ray and lost a close game, 7-5. It was a back-and-forth duel that was tied at 5 after Old Saybrook plated a run in the top of the sixth inning, but Hale-Ray came back with two runs in the bottom half to get the victory.

The Rams improved to 4-3 after winning two of last week’s matchups. Old Saybrook defeated Valley Regional 23-8 at home on April 18, posted a 15-13 victory at Haddam-Killingworth two days later, and took a 19-9 loss at Lauralton Hall on April 11.

Old Saybrook lost two contests last week and is now 1-5 this year. First, the Rams went to Valley Regional and lost 12-5 on April 18. Two days later, they were back home to face Haddam-Killingworth and took a 13-6 defeat.
