East Haven resident and Lauralton Hall graduate Ireland Miessau, who currently plays softball for Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, recently signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division I softball for the University of Rhode Island Rams.

Miessau arrived at Deerfield Academy last fall as a post-graduate student after splitting time as Lauralton Hall’s starting pitcher for the majority of her sophomore and junior seasons. She took over the starting job as a senior and put up some outstanding numbers, posting a 20-6 record with an ERA of 0.97, while striking out 245 batters in 172.1 innings on her way to All-State honors. Miessau also caused trouble for opposing teams when she stepped up to the plate by batting .319 with two home runs and 17 RBI.

Despite only being three games into her lone season at Deerfield Academy, Miessau made her presence known by batting .667 with 19 strikeouts and zero walks through 10 innings of work on the mound. In a recent game against Stoneleigh, Miessau struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced. The Big Green softball team jumped out a 3-1 record to start their season.
