Old Saybrook’s Tennis Teams See Successful Week

Girls’ Tennis

The Old Saybrook girls’ tennis played three matches last week and won two of three to put its record at 4-1 this season.

In their first matchup, the Rams defeated Haddam-Killingworth at home by a score of 6-1 on April 11. Senior Erin Stangel prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles; junior Tanya Gianitsos won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot; and senior Isabell Leciani won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. In doubles, senior Lucy Marinelli and Sam Fucci won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 position; senior Jillian Hirst and junior Emma Rogan claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot; and the sophomore duo of Alice Gadon and Claudia Winiarskij won at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-2.

On April 12, Old Saybrook was at home against East Hampton and posted a 7-0 shutout. Senior Rosie Rothman claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win; Stangel won 6-0, 6-1; Gianitsos won 6-0, 6-0; and Luciani was victorious, 6-4, 6-4. In doubles, Marinelli and Fucci won 6-1, 6-4; Hirst and Rogan claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win; and Gadon and Winiarskij won by default.

On April 13, the Rams hosted Westbrook and dropped a 4-3 decision. Stangel won 6-4, 6-1; Gianitsos won 6-0, 6-0; and Luciani was victorious by a 6-0, 6-0 final for Old Saybrook.

Boys’ Tennis

The Rams had three contests last week and won all of them to bring their record to 3-1.

Old Saybrook’s first matchup was at home against Haddam-Killingworth, and the Rams prevailed by a score of 7-0 on April 11. The following day, the Rams went to East Hampton and won 7-0. The next day, Old Saybrook came back home to face Coginchaug and won 7-0 on April 13.

Softball

Old Saybrook took a pair of recent defeats to move to 1-4 on the season.

In their first game, the Rams faced the Panthers at Cromwell and were edge 5-4 on April 11.

Two days later, Old Saybrook was at home against Haddam-Killingworth and lost by the final off 22-5. Haddam Killingworth scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning and added eight in the fifth on its way to the win. Kirsten King had two singles for the Rams, and fellow senior captain Anna Joseph hit a double.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Rams’ lone game last week was a home contest against Old Lyme. The Wildcats won a close contest by the score of 11-10 on April 11 as Old Saybrook is now even on the season with a mark of 2-2.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Old Saybrook boys’ lacrosse team played one game last week when it hit the road to face Old Lyme. The Rams took a 13-4 defeat on April 11 and are now 1-3 on the season.
