North Branford Cheer Takes 7th in Class S; Girls’ Hoops Loses in First Round of States

Cheerleading

The North Branford cheerleading squad competed at the Class S State Championship on March 3 and finished in seventh place out of 18 teams by scoring 128.5 points. It was a solid finish for the T-Birds, who had a goal of placing in the top 10 and did so by recording their best team score in any competition this season. Head Coach Marisa Laudano said that everything clicked for her team at the meet.

The athletes on North Branford’s team are Annika Pearson, Rachel Vitarisi, Katie Palma, Amanda Scell, Ava Smola, Alliyah Tropiano, Megan Muzyka, Jamie Slubowski, Brooke Hammond, Nicole Cove, Marisa D’Amico, Kayla Scarano, Rachel Kwalek, Makena Gagliardi, Jennina Esposito, Alexa Nuterangelo, Kaley Oliverio, Arana Esposito, and Cameron Fisco.

Girls’ Basketball

The Thunderbirds entered the Class M State Tournament holding the 31st seed and played No. 2 Career in the opening round on Feb. 28. North Branford fought hard, but came up shy by taking a 58-38 defeat to finish its season with a record of 10-13.

Boys’ Basketball

North Branford is the No. 19 seed in the Class S State Tournament and plays at No. 14 Haddam-Killingworth in a first round contest at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7. If the Thunderbirds win, they’ll play the winner of 3rd-seeded Sport & Medical Sciences Academy and No. 30 Whitney Tech in the second round at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 9.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The T-Birds claimed the 8th seed in the Division II State Tournament and will host No. 9 South Windsor on Tuesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. Should North Branford come away with a win, it will play the winner of No. 1 East Haven and No. 16 Amity in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 10.
