Haddam-Killingworth’s Figurelli Competes at State Open Gymnastics Meet

Gymnastics

Erin Figurelli represented the Haddam-Killingworth/Hale-Ray/Morgan gymnastics team at the State Open Championship at New Milford on March 4.

Figurelli scored an 8.975 on the vault, had a score of 9.05 on bars, posted a mark of 8.35 for the beam, and scored a 9.05 on floor. Figurelli finished with an all-around tally of 35.425 at the State Open meet. Additionally, Morgan’s Haley Smith competed on the vault and recorded a score of 8.3.

Wrestling

David Wyzykowski wrestled on behalf of the Cougars at the New England Championship last week. Wyzykowski competed in the 182-pound weight class and posted a record of 2-2 in his bracket. The New England meet took place on March 3-4 at the Providence Career and Technical Center in Rhode Island.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The Cougars finished in 11th place with 259 points at the SCC Championship, which was held on March 1 at Southern Connecticut State University.

Zach Houlton finished in fifth place for the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.49 at the meet. The Cougars’ 200 medley relay of Jake Torello, Will Carlson, Evan Stock, and Max Revis finished 14th (1:54.68). Elijah Houlton finished 22nd in the 50 free (23.96) and Michael Morman followed in 28th (24.52). Elijah Houlton was also 17th for the 100 butterfly (58.79). Morman came in 27th in the 100 free (54.05), while Zach Houlton swam to 14th for the 500 free (5:06.80). The 200 free relay of Morman, Revis, Elijah Houlton, and Zach Houlton raced to eighth (1:35.96); Torello tied for 16th with the 100 backstroke (59.83); Carlson found 29th in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.49); and the 400 free relay of Morman, Torello, Elijah Houlton, and Zach Houlton came in 10th place with a time of 3:31.72.

Boys’ Basketball

The bracket for the Class S State Tournament was released last week and the Cougars (12-9) are the No. 14 seed. H-K will host No. 19 North Branford (11-10) in the first round on Tuesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the second round against either No. 3 Sports & Medical Sciences Academy (17-3) or No. 30 Whitney Tech (9-11) on Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m.
