H-K Rec Department Holds Hotshot Hoops Competition

The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department sponsored a local Hotshot Contest this winter. In the contest, Symone Samuel was the winner of the girls’ 9-10-year-old division with 30 points; Chase Smalley was the winner of the boys’ 9-10-year-old division with 57 points; and Andrew Fleig won the boys’ 11-12 year-old-division by scoring 81 points. These players will advance to the state level in Old Saybrook on Saturday, April 1 and compete against other winners from Connecticut.

The Hotshot Contest is designed to promote basketball enthusiasm, as well as basketball skill, fun, physical fitness, friendship, and good sportsmanship. Each player has three one-minute rounds to shoot from “hot spots” placed on one half of the court. The contest challenges a player’s speed, shooting, dribbling, and rebounding ability. Along with the H-K Rec Department, the Hotshot Contest is also sponsored by the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association.
