Flip-Flop Gymnastics Sees Plenty of Representation at DGS Northeast Invitational

The Flip-Flop Gymnastics teams competed at the DGS Northeast Invitational at Trinity College in West Hartford from Jan. 15-17.

Alexandra Batts of Lyme was the only Xcel Diamond competitor from Team Flip-Flop. Batts earned an event high of 9.1 for fourth place on floor, as well as third on vault and fourth on bars, beam, and all-around with a 34.4.

Brooklyn Geida of Niantic championed the Xcel Platinum team by placing second for her event high of 9.25 on bars, as well as fifth on vault, fourth on beam, and second on floor and all-around with a 36.2. Emily Brucker of Deep River earned an event high of 9.2 for first place on both vault and beam and finished second all-around with a 35.8. Emma Pfau of Guilford placed first on floor for her high score of 9.075 and second all-around with a 35.475. Anna Donato of Old Lyme placed third on vault for her event high of 9.025 and fourth all-around with a 34.575. Emma Anderson of Higganum scored a high of 8.75 for seventh place on both vault and the floor exercise and totaled a 34.325 all-around. Katie Schumann of Old Saybrook earned fourth place for her event high of 8.9 on vault and finished fifth all-around with a 33.125.

The Xcel Gold team was led by Brianna Minervino of Higganum with an event high of 9.5 for second place on balance beam, as well as first on bars, sixth on floor, and fourth on vault and all-around with a 36.6. Grace Jacaruso of Essex earned fifth place for her high score of 9.2 on bars, as well as fifth all-around with a final score of 36.05. Katie Zimmer of East Hampton came in first on vault for her high score of 9.4 and finished sixth all-around with a 35.8. Paige Thomas had an event high of 9.0 on balance beam for third place and totaled a 34.2 for seventh place all-around.

The Xcel Silver team was led by Isabella Giuliano of Deep River, who scored 9s on all four events with a high of 9.3 on floor for first place, as well as third on bars and beam and first on vault and all-around with a 37.05. Reagan Furgueson of Centerbrook earned a 9.4 for her high score on bars for first place, as well as second on beam and floor and first all-around with a 36.65. Kelly Walsh of Old Saybrook came in first place for her event high of 9.45 on balance beam and second all-around with a 36.6. Hailey Young of Ivoryton scored a high of 9.1 on both vault and beam for fourth and third place, respectively, and totaled a 36.25 all-around for second place. Katrina Tozier of East Haddam scored highest on bars with a 9.5 for first place and finished second all-around with a 36.15. Mia Alio of Deep River came in second place for her event high of 9.2 on bars and finished fourth all-around with a 36.10. Madeline Jacaruso of Essex earned a high score of 9.15 for third place on vault and finished in sixth place with an all-around score of 35.95. Kaia Karcich of Deep River placed fourth on vault, beam, and floor with an event high of 9.2 on beam and finished eighth all-around with a 35.65.

The DGS Northeast Invitational marked the first competition for the Xcel Bronze team it was a very successful one. Halley Pierson of Westbrook led the group with 9s on three out of four events, including a high of 9.35 for fourth place on bars, and finished seventh overall with a 36.45. Katherine Bergmann of East Haddam came in fifth on floor for her event high of 9.2 and totaled a 36.45 all-around. Haylee Weglarz of Deep River had a high score of 9.05 on both bars and beam, came in fourth on vault, and finished with a 36.0 all-around. Charlotte Jacobson, also of Deep River, had an event high of 9.25 on bars, came in fifth on vault, and totaled an all-around of 35.5. Christina Grace of Old Saybrook came in third place on vault, scored an event high of 9.15 on bars, and finished with a 35.30 all-around. Carlee Harwood of Killingworth earned a 9.0 for her event high on floor, placed third on vault, and seventh all-around with a 35.25.

Isabella Carlo of Old Saybrook and Ella Gibson of Essex were the sole competitors representing the Level 7 and 8 teams, respectively. Carlo had an event high of 9.1 on vault and placed fourth on floor and seventh all-around with a 32.3. Gibson placed first on vault for her high of 9.0, as well as third on beam and first on bars, floor, and all-around with a 34.975.

The Level 6 team was led by Leah Frantz of Deep River with an event high of 9.2 on balance beam for second place, as well as second on floor, third on bars, fourth on vault, and second all-around with a 35.05. Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones of Killingworth came in second place for her high score of 8.975 on beam and finished second all-around with a 34.775. Juliana Gagliardi, also of Killingworth, earned an event high of 9.125 on balance beam for third place, as well as third all-around with a total of 34.65. Sarah Cole of Chester came in second on floor for her high score of 9.075 and seventh all-around with a 34.175. Allyson Viens of Higganum had an event high of 8.95 on beam for fourth place and finished with a 34.15 for eighth all-around. Erin Ward of Chester earned a high of 8.8 for sixth place on vault and totaled a 33.425 all-around. Ella Stevens of Centerbrook came in eighth place on balance beam for her high score of 8.65 and finished with a 33.225 all-around.

Chase Conrad of Ivoryton led the Level 4 team, placing first on beam with an event high of 9.15, second on floor, third on vault, fourth on bars, and second all-around with a 33.85. Corina Pagliuco, also of Ivoryton, earned first place for her solid beam routine with a 9.25 and came in sixth all-around with a 33.8. Julie Hartt of Deep River had an event high of 8.8 on vault to put her in third place and finished fifth all-around with a 33.0. Violet Lavezzoli had a great meet with highlights of second place on vault and bars, an event high of 8.5 on bars, and a 32.8 all-around for fifth place.

Corallina Giuliano of Deep River led the Level 3 team with a high of 9.1 on vault for second place, as well as second on bars, third on floor, and first on beam and all-around with a 34.95. Ava Mazotta of Haddam placed eighth on vault for her high score of 9.205 and 10th all-around with a 34.555. Sadie Laurie of Old Saybrook also scored an event high on vault with an 8.55 and totaled a 32.2 all-around. Hailey Fosque of Westbrook earned a high of 8.5 on vault and placed eighth all-around with a 32.2. Emma Tenabe of East Haddam placed fourth on vault with an 8.85 and finished in eighth place overall with a 31.55. Meghan Brown of Higganum had solid scores throughout with a high of 8.0 on vault.
