Huskies’ Wrestling, Track Represent at State Open

The Morgan wrestling team sent a handful of athletes to compete at the State Open Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 24 and 25. The Huskies scored six points and finished in 59th place at the meet.

For the 182-pound weight class, senior Ivan Villanueva won a 6-5 decision in the championship bracket and then lost his next match by pin at the 1:43 mark. That put Villanueva in the consolation bracket, where he won his first match via pin at 3:12. Villanueva’s run came to a close with a 5-2 loss in his next contest.

In the 113-pound weight class, junior Trevor Follo reached the round-of-16 on a bye and lost an 8-3 decision to move to the consolation bracket, where he lost by pin fall at the 3:49 mark.

For the 145-pound division, sophomore Anthony Cimino lost by pin at 3:47 in the championship bracket, then lost a 3-0 decision in the consolation rounds.

In the 285-pound weight class, junior Austin Daley reached the round-of-16 in the championship bracket via a bye and lost a 3-1 decision in his first bout. Daley then took a 1-0 defeat in the consolation bracket.

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Huskies were represented by a few athletes at last week’s State Open Championship, which took place at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 20.

Junior Kate Daley placed 13th in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:46.33 for Morgan. In the 1,600 sprint medley, the Huskies’ team of sophomore Alyssa LeMay, senior Julia Zirchelbach, junior Courtney Viglione, and junior Allison Gardner placed 16th with a time of 4:33.96.
