H-K Boys’ Hoops Loses in Shoreline Quarters; Wrestling, Track Compete at State Open

Boys’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball squad finished the regular season with a record of 12-8 after a posting a 54-47 win over North Branford on Feb. 21. On Feb. 25, the Cougars opened play in the Shoreline Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed and took a 71-61 loss at No. 4 Old Saybrook.

Next up for the Cougars (12-9) is the Class S State Tournament, which opens with first round action on Tuesday, March 7. H-K is seeded 14th and will host a first round matchup.

Wrestling

The Cougars came in 31st place with 30.5 points for the State Open on Feb. 24 and 25 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

David WyzyKowski finished fifth in the 182-pound weight class for the Cougars. Also competing were for Haddam-Killingworth were Matthew Jenkins, who won two bouts in the 132 class; along with Aidan Korper and Grayson Adler, who picked up one victory apiece in the 145 and 160 weight classes, respectively.

Girls’ Indoor Track

The Cougars were represented by two athletes at the State Open Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 20.

Kelsey D’Amico finished 11th in the 1,600-meter run by running at a time of 5:35.7 for Haddam-Killingworth. Veronica Chrzanowski came in ninth for the long jump behind a distance of 16 feet-2.75 inches.

Boys’ Indoor Track

Nicholas Formica competed on behalf of the Cougars at last week’s State Open Champinship. Formica reached a distance of 19 feet-8 inches in the long jump and finished in 15th place.

Ice Hockey

Lyman Hall/H-K/Coginchaug took a 3-2 loss to the Norwich Free Academy Redhawks on Feb. 22, after which the Trojans finished the regular season an even 10-10 with a 6-3 win over the Eastern Connecticut Eagles on Feb. 25.

Next up for the Trojans is the SWC/SCC Division III Tournaent, which begins with the semifinals against No. 4 Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury on Wednesday, March 1. A win there puts top-seeded Lyman Hall/H-K/Coginchaug in the final on Friday, March 3 at Bennett Rink in West Haven against either No. 2 Masuk or No. 3 Newtown.
