Gibson Wins the Beam, Takes 4th All-Around at SCC Championship

Essex resident Ella Gibson took first place on the beam and placed fourth all-around to help the Mercy gymnastics team finish second at last week’s Southern Connecticut Conference Championship. The Tigers totaled a score of 133.1 to only place behind Hand, which scored a 137.15 to win the meet for the ninth straight year.

Gibson, a junior, won the beam by posting a score of 9.15, edging out runner-up Melanie Coleman from Law with a 9.1. Gibson also took fourth place on vault (9.0) and was sixth on bars (8.55) on her way finishing fourth all-around with a total score of 35.15. Hand’s Erin Naclerio placed first in the all-around at 36.15. Gibson earned a spot on the All-SCC Team as a result of her performance at the conference meet.
